SECRET WATERFALL

Donegal has many attractions but this one has become one of the most popular in the last couple of years. Its location has been kept secret hence the name, but since images have appeared on social media many people both tourists and others from all over Ireland have gone in search of it. Since its location is widely known now I thought I would post a few images from it.

The cave is located in a picturesque area of Donegal and the only way you can gain excess to it is at low tide. It involves a somewhat tricky route over slabs of rock and boulders to reach the entrance. From a Health& Safety aspect, you need to be aware of the danger if caught on an incoming tide and how quickly the tide comes in in that area. You must leave yourself adequate time to make the return journey. If caught there is no way back and the rocks can be challenging in places for less agile people to scramble over.

The flow in the waterfall varies depending on rainfall and you should plan accordingly. It can be a wet experience as water constantly drips from many crevices when inside the cave soaking your equipment fairly quickly.

The view inside the cave On this visit there was only a small flow of water but nevertheless impressive to see and photograph. Setup image photographed on an iPhone.

The cave is reasonably narrow near the top and much more water dripping from the ceiling of the cave above.
