Butterflies are without a doubt the most popular insects and hold a special place in the hearts of people. Their flamboyant nature makes them one of the most eye-catching insects to everyone who sees them. Moths on the other hand are more understated and secretive mainly revealing themselves only after dark. However, many moths as the images confirm in this gallery are insects of great beauty, their colours and often unusual shapes make them fascinating subjects for study and photography.
I have always been fascinated with moths from an early age. Living in a large parkland estate they were not an uncommon sight resting on the walls of the estate in early morning before the sun forced them to retreat to a more shaded area. The images illustrated are a small example of the many species I have seen and photographed from around the world.
